Undergraduate Students Showcase Research at Discovery Day

Five Moore School juniors and seniors will present their research and scholarship on Friday, April 24, at the University of South Carolina’s "Discovery Day." This is an annual event where undergraduates in any and all disciplines explain their research via posters or visual art displays, or by making oral, creative, or artistic presentations.

The Moore students taking part in the event are:

  • Brian Blasser, a senior majoring in International Business (IB); topic: "How Do Transnational Integration Regimes Shape Financial Regulatory Institutions in Latin America?"; faculty advisor: Dr. Gerald McDermott, IB.
  • Ryan Burke, a junior majoring in IB; topic: "Dubai’s Academic Cluster"; faculty advisor:
  • Dr. Douglas P. Woodward, Economics.
  • Megan Roberts, a senior majoring in IB; topic: "Historical Antecedents of a Contemporary Rivalry: The Evolution of Ideologies of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona"; faculty advisor: Dr. David Crockett, Marketing.
  • Erin Turner, a junior majoring in IB, and Duggan MacDonald, a junior majoring in Finance; topic: "Sustainability of the Emerging Middle Class in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the Investment Opportunities Created" ; faculty advisor, Dr. Edward Carr, Geography.

More than $9,000 in awards was given last year. The first Discovery Day was held in 2003.
