Introducing Jared Jones

With all of the changes around the building lately and all of the new faces popping up, it is hard to keep track of it all. One of those faces, however, is a bit more familiar than some.  Jared Jones joined us this fall as the new Director of the Master of Accountancy (MACC) Program. As a Spring 2013 graduate of the MACC Program, we are used to seeing him around; but when he took over the position in September, he had a different look about him – more wise than before and eager to jump in. Though he doesn’t yet have quite the sweater-vest to fill in the shadow of Jimmy Burkett, he has already begun to make strides in an effort to keep this program one of the best.

Jared, a native of South Carolina, joins the Moore School after working in public accounting for eight years. He most recently served as an audit manager for Elliott Davis, LLC in Columbia, SC.  Jared graduated from Coastal Carolina University in 2004 with a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis on Accounting and Marketing. He received his Master of Accountancy from USC in 2013.

Jared’s transition from public accounting to academia was driven by the desire to help transform young students into successful accounting professionals. When presented the chance to serve as Lecturer and MACC Director, Jared jumped at the opportunity. As a Lecturer, Jared strives to help students grow their accounting technical ability and acumen. As the MACC Director, Jared’s goals are to continue to attract a high caliber of student and prepare them for a successful career as an accountant. This includes cultivating existing, and forging new relationships with professional firms, professional organizations, and other universities.

In 2004, Jared married Ashley Blackmon Jones, an undergraduate alumnus of USC and current physician at the USC School of Medicine. Together they have two daughters: Bailey and Piper. Bailey, age five, is passionate about cheerleading, dance and soccer. Piper, age one, shares her father’s orange hair.

Jared and Ashley are passionate Gamecock fans. They have sought to instill their love for USC athletics in their two children. The young girls are often seen running around in their Gamecock cheerleading outfits on game days, and the family tailgates for every game (although most tailgates take place at home instead of the stadium).

When asked to reveal something “interesting,” Jared commented that he owns a Harley Davison trike, and has been on a couple of two-week motorcycle trips with his father, Kelly, and brother, Josh.  For one of the trips the Jones boys shipped their bikes to Alaska and drove down the Alaskan Highway and through several provinces of Canada before ending their trip in Wisconsin.  Jared currently has a map of their voyages hanging in his office.

When you come to check out the map and say hello – which I am sure you will – you have to check out the adorable pictures of the girls that are posted up as well, as any proud father would have. The photos were taken right here on campus in the Horseshoe and they are just another testament of how proud the Joneses are of their Gamecock spirit.
Jared and his family will be travelling throughout the break, visiting family members across the state, but be sure to come on over and get to know him. His enthusiasm for the program as well as his genuine laugh is contagious; he just might brighten your day.
