Curriculum

The Professional MBA curriculum is designed to provide a fundamental business knowledge base along with the ability to take electives in business analytics, entrepreneurship, finance or international business. Learn from the same world-class faculty who teach in the full-time MBA programs at the Moore School. Our faculty are recognized for their research and consultative accomplishments as well as their deep industry experience. Faculty provide course content that is relevant in today's ever-changing business world.  Using the most recent multimedia technology available, students learn through real-time and captured instruction, discussion boards, web conferencing and day-long residencies. Week-long study abroad experiences are also available to Professional MBA students.

Professional MBA students are able to earn a certificate in business analytics while completing the program.  The certificate is designed to complement the program's curriculum and enhance career opportunities. It consists of 12 credit hours which also counts as four electives within the Professional MBA curriculum.

ACADEMIC SCHEDULE AND DELIVERY FORMAT

The Professional MBA program academic schedule contains six seven-week terms as well as some intersession course terms. For example, Financial Accounting meets one night per week at multiple locations and the Competing through People is three full-day Saturday classes on the USC Columbia campus. Electives are offered in a combination of convenient formats. The faculty teach using video conferencing technology from the Moore School of Business. The program has regional classrooms in Aiken, Bluffton, Columbia, Charleston, Charlotte, Greenville and Spartanburg. During the seven-week terms, classes meet one night per week (Monday through Thursday) from 6:00 -9:00 p.m. in the above locations. Students can also attend weeknight classes in real time from anywhere with a high-speed internet connection. There is real-time communication between faculty and students in the regional classrooms as well as students attending from other locations. Each class is available the following morning in a delayed streaming format. 

Classes are interactive and engaging, centering around real-world applications, student presentations, case analysis and problem-solving. Faculty include some asynchronous activities such as prerecorded lectures and threaded group discussions between weekly classes.

COURSE SEQUENCES

Incoming students may start the Professional MBA program in the Spring I or Fall I terms following the appropriate course sequence table below. Each sequence calls for taking Financial Accounting first followed by Managerial Accounting and Quantitative Methods before continuing forward in the curriculum. Those courses provide a basic quantitative foundation necessary to be successful in the rest of the courses.
